How to get there

Surabaya to Mount Bromo

Surabaya is the closest major gateway to Bromo, about 3 to 4 hours by road, so a one-day tour is feasible from here.

Our pick

Because Surabaya is close, a one-day tour works here in a way it does not from Yogyakarta. Door-to-door shuttles via Cemoro Lawang are easiest. Go in the dry season, April to October, for clear sunrise views. Even from Surabaya, an overnight near the crater is more comfortable than the very early start a day trip demands.
